William Parven is the 16 year old on Bear Grylls Escape From Hell that loves going on hikes and climbing Mountains. The day William decided to climb Mount San Gorgonio located in
California this is the day he turned into a man. William had been wanting to
climb San Gorgonio for awhile and one day he convinced his family to go on the long days hike. About three quarters of the way up, William
realized at their current pace they would not be able to reach the summit. William decides he could still make it if
he left his sister and his dad behind, but little did they know this might of been the last time they ever seen William again.
On the way up to the summit William was making really
good time making sure he could get to the top when he started coming down with
altitude sickness. William could see the summit and decides to keep going higher.
Summit fever is when you can
see the top and nothing is going to stop you from making it the top including
altitude sickness. It gives you a sense of invincibility that can be the
most dangers thing of all because the only thing your focusing on is making it to the top of the summit and nothing else.
William makes makes the summit with no time
to spare and is forced to turn around and begin his decent before nightfall. William is still thinking
about the summit when he starts running down the mountain and triggering the worst
thing you could do when experiencing altitude sickness.
On the way down Parvin realizes he doesn't recognize the trail he came up on but continues on heading down. Little does William know he's going farther and farther into the middle of nowhere. As the sun starts
going down he realizes he's going to have to spend the night with nothing
more than a jacket, flash light and a small pack with a little food.
Parvin has gone camping before but that
was with a bunch of camping gear and his family. The16 year old William has never spent the night in the woods alone
and it will be a night he will never forget.
William awakes to a rustling sound and
takes a look with his flash light, it’s just a deer that no big deal. A couple
hours later William wakes up again hearing a similar sound but this time it's a huge black bear less than 10 feet away. He freezes not
sure what to do and then he realizes he needs to distract the bear so
he throws his pack that contained what little food he had. The bear takes the bait
giving William just enough time for him to get away still in the darkness of night.
Now William has been missing for more than
24 hours and his family reports him missing and a full blown Search and Rescue begins. Parvin has been walking in the wrong direction the entire time and now very far from
where he first began. William
comes across a small stream and realizes the trail he followed crossed over a
stream several times and starts following the stream. Soon after William comes
to a impassible water fall, with no other way around he decides to climb down
the 40 ft. waterfall.
Being in a survival situation you would
never want to risk your life getting down a waterfall but William is successful and continues on. He is feeling invincible again after completing such a
difficult task when another waterfall is in the path down the mountain.
William feeling invincible rushes into it and slips and
hits his head. He wakes up with a concussion and realizes he is now
at the bottom of the water fall. In a lot of pain, William decides to push on..
Parvin eventually finds and follows down a dirt road after 5 days of surviving on very little, when he finally Escapes From Hell and rescued off the mountain when he spots a vehicle.
